The basics

What does Lakelytics actually measure?

Every Lakelytics sensor station measures dissolved oxygen and water temperature continuously. The Water Quality sensor station adds pH with automatic temperature compensation. Conductivity and turbidity are available as add-ons on the same sensor bus.

Do I need mains power or Wi-Fi at the lake?

No. The sensor station is solar powered with a built-in battery, and it sends readings over a secure, long-range wireless link to a small site gateway. The gateway connects to the internet by Ethernet, Wi-Fi or a 4G/LTE mobile signal — and can run on solar too — so you only need a connection at the gateway, never at the water.

How does it warn me before a fish kill?

Lakelytics sends alerts to your phone the moment oxygen drops toward a dangerous level — day or night. Because dissolved oxygen usually crashes before dawn, the sensor station watches while you sleep and can automatically switch on an aerator through a remote smart plug.

How much maintenance does it need?

Very little. The dissolved oxygen sensor is optical (fluorescence) with no electrolytes to replace — just an occasional wipe-down to clear fouling. The app reminds you when a clean is due and lets you log it from your phone to reset the reminder.

How big a lake does one sensor station cover?

As a rule of thumb, one sensor station comfortably covers a typical small, single-basin fishing lake up to roughly 2–4 acres (1–2 hectares) of fairly uniform water. Larger lakes, separate bays or basins, and long or narrow shapes benefit from a second sensor station.

Installation & setup

How is Lakelytics installed?

Two ways. Self-install with phone support — everything arrives pre-configured, you place the sensor station and power the gateway, and we guide you through it, usually in under an hour. Or we come to site, choose the best placement and install it all for you as a paid site visit.

Where should I place the sensor station?

Put the sensor station where oxygen drops first: the deepest area, the most sheltered corner out of the wind, and the weediest zone — and away from any aerator or fountain, so you see the lake’s true condition rather than the oxygenated bubble around the aerator. One sensor station in that "canary" spot beats several in easy-to-reach places.

How far can the sensor station be from the gateway?

The sensor station uses a long-range wireless link that comfortably covers a lake and its surroundings — typically hundreds of metres up to a few kilometres in open, rural settings. During setup we confirm a strong signal between each sensor station and the gateway.

What do I need to provide?

Just an internet connection at the gateway location — Ethernet, Wi-Fi or a 4G/LTE mobile signal — often at a clubhouse, cabin or nearby building. For fully off-grid sites the gateway can be solar powered. Nothing is needed at the water’s edge; the sensor station is solar powered and we supply the connectivity.

Alerts & aeration

How will I be alerted to low oxygen?

By push notification, SMS and email — as soon as dissolved oxygen trends toward a level you set. Alerts run 24/7, so you’re warned overnight and before dawn, when oxygen usually bottoms out.

Can it turn my aerator on automatically?

Yes. Pair a Lakelytics smart plug with your aerator and set a threshold. When oxygen drops, the plug switches the aerator on automatically; when levels recover, it can switch off again. You can also toggle it manually from the app.

What oxygen level is dangerous for fish?

It varies by species, but as a general guide most coarse and game fish are comfortable above roughly 6 mg/L, come under stress below about 4 mg/L, and are at serious risk below around 3 mg/L. Lakelytics lets you set alert thresholds to suit your stock.

Maintenance & reliability

What maintenance does the sensor need?

Just an occasional wipe-down to clear fouling — there are no electrolytes or membranes to replace on the optical DO sensor. The app reminds you when a clean is due (typically every 6–12 months) and lets you log it from your phone, which resets the reminder.

What happens if the battery or signal drops?

The sensor station is solar powered with a battery buffer for cloudy spells, and the system flags any sensor station that stops reporting so a problem is never silent. Readings are stored and forwarded, so short connectivity gaps don’t lose data.

Is it built for being left out on the water?

Yes. The sensor station housing is watertight and the sensor is rated for continuous immersion. It’s designed to live on your lake year-round, through UK winters included.

Pricing & ownership

How much does Lakelytics cost?

Pricing has two parts: a one-off for the hardware (gateway, sensor station and smart plug) and an ongoing monitoring subscription that covers connectivity, the app, alerts and support. Multi-lake and estate setups are quoted to suit the site. Ask us for a quote for your water.
