How it works

From the deep water to your phone

No power at the lake. No Wi-Fi at the water. No contracts to arrange. Here’s exactly how a Lakelytics station ends up warning you before a fish kill.

In short: a solar-powered sensor reads dissolved oxygen, temperature and (optionally) pH in your lake every 5 minutes. Each reading is sent wirelessly to a small site gateway, which connects to the internet by Ethernet, Wi-Fi or a 4G/LTE mobile signal — even solar-powered for off-grid waters. The data lands in the Lakelytics portal and app, where you see it live, get alerts the moment oxygen trends low, and can switch an aerator on automatically.

    The sensor reads the deep water

    A sealed sensor sits below the surface in the cooler, deeper water where oxygen falls first. It measures dissolved oxygen and temperature; add the pH sensor and it plugs into the same underwater connector, so one unit reads everything that matters. The dissolved-oxygen sensor is optical, so there are no electrolytes or membranes to replace.

    A built-in battery and solar panel keep the station powered year-round — no cabling and no charging.

    It samples every 5 minutes

    Lakelytics takes a fresh reading every 5 minutes. Oxygen in a lake changes over hours, not seconds, so five-minute sampling captures the full day-and-night curve for tracking and trending — while the sensor only powers up when it takes a reading, which makes the battery last. On lakes that are tight on power, we can slow the sampling down to conserve even more.

    You still see the overnight trend building and get alerts in good time — real-time streaming simply isn’t needed to protect fish.

    It sends the reading wirelessly

    Each reading travels over a secure, long-range wireless link to a small site gateway. It reaches across a lake and its surroundings without any power, cabling or Wi-Fi at the water’s edge.

    One gateway can listen to several sensor stations at once, across separate bays and basins.

    The gateway connects to the internet

    The gateway forwards your data to us over whatever connection your site has: plug it into Ethernet, join it to Wi-Fi, or let it use a 4G/LTE mobile signal for a completely off-grid lake. The gateway can even run from its own solar panel as an optional extra, so a remote water needs nothing from you.

    We supply and manage the connectivity — there’s nothing for you to configure or contract.

    You see it in the portal and app

    Your readings land in the Lakelytics portal, where we display them on the web dashboard and the mobile app. Watch live levels and trends, get an alert the moment oxygen dips toward the threshold you set, and let Lakelytics switch an aerator on automatically through a smart plug until levels recover.

What makes up a Lakelytics system

Solar station

Sits on the lake and powers itself from sunlight with a battery buffer. Watertight and built to be left in place year-round.

Sensor & connector
