Getting started

Setting up your Lakelytics kit for the first time

Updated 8 August 2026

To set up Lakelytics: place the sensor station in the deep, sheltered part of your lake (with clear sky for the solar), power up and connect the gateway, then open the app and confirm live readings are arriving. Most single-lake setups take under an hour, and everything arrives pre-configured.

Everything arrives pre-configured and labelled, so first-time setup is mostly about putting each part in the right place. Allow about an hour for a single lake.

Before you start

  • Decide where the gateway will live — somewhere dry with power (or its solar panel) and an internet connection: Ethernet, Wi-Fi or a 4G/LTE signal.
  • Pick the spot for the sensor station — see where to place your monitoring kit for the full guide.

Step by step

  1. Power the gateway first. Connect it to power (or set up its solar panel) and to the internet. Give it a few minutes to come online — its status light will settle when it’s connected.
  2. Place the sensor station on the lake. Position it in the deep, sheltered “canary” spot, but with open sky above so the solar panel charges. Make sure the submerged sensor hangs freely below the surface.
  3. Check the link. Back at the gateway, confirm it’s receiving the station. In the app, the station should show as online within a few minutes.
  4. Confirm live readings. Open the Lakelytics app or web dashboard and check that dissolved oxygen, temperature (and pH, if fitted) are updating. Readings refresh every 5 minutes.
  5. Set your alert threshold and add your team. Choose the oxygen level you want to be warned at, and add anyone who should receive alerts. See setting alert thresholds.

Done

Once readings are flowing and alerts are set, the station will run on its own year-round. If anything doesn’t come online, see my sensor station has stopped sending readings or call us — we’ll walk you through it.
